June 2022: Arvida Roasting Co.
Secret Sip Coffee Club is giddy with joy as we unveil June’s trail blazer in the region of Quebec called Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. The rocking roasting team are truly world class, continuously looking to push the envelope with not only the green beans they bring in, but the technical elements of the roast, which they continue to refine. Roasting some mouth-watering single origins delivering the aforesaid with the biggest smiles that region has ever seen is Arvida Roasting Co.!
The team is beyond proud to be the first specialty coffee micro-roaster in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean with a killer yet simple mission: develop and promote specialty coffee in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and achieve this through the observance of transparency and responsible sourcing. The team is extremely vigilant and supportive of local processing and the entire value chain, offering the best beans on the market and respecting the highest quality standards on the market.
“Our training and experience in roasting and sensory analysis allow us to bring out the best in each coffee. Both as a company and as individuals, our fundamental value is transparency. We believe that the latter is essential to the creation and maintenance of a fair, egalitarian and innovative value chain in all industries. Going to meet producers, creating solid relationships from the start, publishing the prices of our raw material and opening up the discussion on the value of coffee are initiatives that allow us to contribute to the development of transparency in our industry.”
After much deliberation, our team selected a really novel coffee from the Cerrado Mineiro region of Brazil as the feature (the “Anahi”). This coffee is grown by Danilo Barbosa and his son, Vitor Marcelo Q. Barbosa, of DBarbosa Coffee. Assisted by their quality control team, they take care of a 490-hectare plantation. Year after year, they work to improve their production and management process in order to continuously improve the quality of their coffee.
The beans in this coffee are of the peaberry type. The latter are the result of a natural mutation in which only one bean develops inside the coffee cherry and not two. It is commonly said that this type of grain offers good acidity, great sweetness and concentrated and complex flavors.
The Anahi offers notes of ripe berry, chocolate, cocoa, honey, and walnut.
