August 2022: Mill Town Roasters
Secret Sip Coffee Club, for the first time ever, since our establishment in 2016, is proud to announce August’s secret roasting partner resides and operates out of Fredericton, New Brunswick! We sure could not have picked a better roaster to represent the province of New Brunswick for the very first time. With great pleasure, our team is proud to introduce Mill Town Coffee Roasters, absolutely crushing it our of Fredericton! The featured bean was actually submitted to the famed “Golden Bean Competition and placed in the top 10!
Mill Town Roasters (“MTR”) started with three individuals and one common goal: “to produce a higher quality coffee for the people of Freddy Beach”. It wasn’t long after this dream was born that Katie & Carl boarded their first flight in pursuit of their dream. First stop, Minneapolis, Idaho, and Sandpoint. Then joined Melodie, the third coffee connoisseur and again off they went; Toronto, Boston and beyond, their coffee knowledge was broadening and their passion for coffee was growing. MTR opened its first roastery in April 2019, and its first satellite shop in December 2019.
This third-generation roasting family’s attention to detail, women empowerment, community engagement, the environment, and of course sustainability is beyond impressive, and they provided us with their ethos around the topics:
“We often talk about what it means to be sustainable in the coffee industry, and for us one of the big ways we uphold this standard is through building strong relationships both locally, and globally. We work only with a limited number of importers and producers, to build stronger personal relations. We also bear in mind the environmental effects of coffee, sourcing organic, women product, fair trade and rainforest alliance whenever possible.
Here at MTR, we have a local and global initiative that helps encourage more women to get involved in the coffee industry. The Women of the World Series is an ever-changing collection of coffee that is produced, imported, and roasted by women. We make a note to only bring in one or two bags per region, so we can highlight as many female cooperatives around the world as possible. A portion of every Women of the World Series bag sold at any of our locations gets collected and donated to female initiatives around the Fredericton area. Together we can strengthen the bond between women world-wide and help close the gap between producer and consumer.”
For this special secret shipment, New Brunswick’s Mill Town served up an incredibly unique Single origin from Colombia grown at 1400 MASL, is a fully washed Caturra, medium roast with tasting notes of Anjoy Pear, Wildflower Honey, Vanilla bean, and Milk Chocolate. So darn good 😊
