July 2019's Roaster of the Month: Rogue Wave Coffee
Secret Sip Coffee Club jubilantly presents our July roasting partner, an exquisite small batch industry player making a serious splash with their decade long quest to rock people’s pallets. Roasting out of Edmonton, Alberta, Rogue Wave Coffee Co. was founded by Dave Walsh and Dave Laville who first started roasting coffee in Edmonton more than a decade ago. They began with a roasting machine they built themselves, with the goal of making coffee for a living. After some time away from the coffee scene and Edmonton in general, Rogue Wave was the dream child of the two business partners and their revival of a deeply rooted passion.
The “2 Daves”, as it is referred to on their wicked website decided to revive and launch Rogue Wave Coffee Co. at a time when Edmonton appears to be in the midst of a coffee renaissance. Neither of the Daves is convinced their venture could have worked in an earlier time period. They attribute this belief to the fact that customers are more attentive and have a greater interest in craft coffee than they did a decade or more ago.
This month’s offering to our club members was a wildly audacious single origin Ethiopia from the Boji Washing Station / Kochere small holders. The variety of the beans are Heirloom grown at 1900 MASL and were processed through mechanical washing methods. The vibrant tasting notes included peach, tea, honey, papaya, and spice.
Secret Sip Coffee Club is so pleased to have partnered with Rogue Wave Coffee Co to bring you this month's secret roast, and what we believe to be, one of Canada’s best coffees. To learn more about Rogue Wave Coffee Co, check out their website below:
