January 2018's Roaster of the Month: Roasti Coffee
Secret Sip Coffee Club is thrilled to kick off 2018 with another amazing and exclusive single origin roast. This delectable secret roast is the proud output of this month’s secret roasting partners from Edmonton, Alberta. Roasti Coffee Co. is a fantastic micro-roaster which strives for excellence in roasting and direct contact with all of their suppliers. Roasti has an exclusive agreement with the farmer of the lovely roast our members have been fortunate to sample, and is the only roaster in Canada to be using them.
Roasti Coffee Company was built around a strong passion for coffee and a goal to bring fresh roasted coffee to the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas. Their story started in 2008 when the founder, Gerry Hayes, made his first trip to Brazil. This was the beginning of his love affair with the country and it's coffee. Gerry has formed a lasting relationship with a speciality coffee producer from the Minas Gerais region. This relationship has helped the team at Roasti realize their dreams to bring the highest quality speciality Brazilian coffees to Canada, direct from the producer. Along with our Brazilian speciality coffee, they feature some of the highest quality Costa Rican and Sumatra Organic coffees. With the help of their Roasting Specialists, Roasti creates truly amazing, delightful and tasty fresh coffee. All of their coffee is roasted in small batches weekly to ensure the highest quality and freshest coffee available, direct to your cup. Roasti is concerned about the environment and sustainability, and as such, offer to all clients recyclable and reusable packaging to help lessen their impact on the environment with as little waste as possible.
This month’s secret roast was an exclusive and direct trade Brazil Yellow Bourbon grown at an altitude of between 900-1200 MASL and processed via natural pulping methods. The coffee was sourced directly from the team’s friend, Henrique, in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. He has put his heart and soul into creating award winning beans for years. Holding a UTZ farming certification for sustainability in farming and rainforest certification, this coffee comes from a place where sustainability and fair practices come first. This yellow bourbon bean is roasted to a medium roast and exhibits a sweet chocolate flavour, with subtle toffee and nut tones throughout, finished with a smooth yet delicate fruit palette.
