With immense pride and admiration, Secret Sip Coffee Club is excited to introduce our esteemed roasting partner, 416 Coffee. Founded by Carmine Battagli, who was born into an Italian family in Toronto, this remarkable brand embodies a rich heritage and a deep passion for coffee. Growing up in an Italian community, Carmine quickly developed a fascination with coffee, particularly espresso. After spending four years in Italy, where his love for coffee only deepened, he returned to his hometown to begin his journey in the coffee industry.
Upon his return, Carmine apprenticed as an espresso machine technician, honing his skills under the guidance of his cousin John, a master coffee roaster with decades of experience. Despite gaining recognition as a skilled technician, Carmine found himself dissatisfied with the lackluster flavors of the coffees that people were simply “sucking back.” Driven by his quest for excellence, he began roasting coffees on any available machine, gradually mastering this delicate art form.
An opportunity soon presented itself when a fellow roaster went out of business, allowing Carmine to purchase his coffee roasting facility. Seizing this moment, he embarked on a journey of experimentation, sourcing beans from around the globe and learning how each coffee profile preferred to be roasted and blended. Over the past 26 years, Carmine has led a passionate team on this caffeine-fueled adventure, driven by his belief that “great accomplishments come after great coffee.”
This month, we are thrilled to feature a single origin coffee from Brazil, sourced from a women’s cooperative located at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level. This exquisite roast presents delightful tasting notes of chocolate, toffee, and nuts, creating a rich and satisfying experience in every cup.
