March 2020: Loft Coffee Co.

Secret Sip Coffee Club proudly presents March’s Secret roasting partner who has blazed a delicious trail in DeWinton, Alberta. Loft Coffee Co. is a specialty small batch, single origin, coffee roaster located in a reclaimed and re-purposed barn loft in DeWinton, just south of Calgary Alberta. The stellar team demarcates every small batch roast by hand with its respective roast date. They are transparent about not looking for world domination, but rather just wanting to roast amazing coffee… which they certainly do!

March’s secret was the group infamous Trailhead espresso. It is the only coffee they actually blend. Over the years they have roasted quite a number of great tasting single origins, many with outstanding characteristics. However, in their roasting travels, they came across two beans that they felt would really complement each other, would provide great flavor without being overpowering and would balance each other out. A naturally processed Brazil and a high-altitude grown, washed Colombia in just the right amounts, form Trailhead.  It is sweet, smooth and offers upfront notes of Honey and Caramel but finishes with a lingering chocolate taste.

We asked why they chose the name Trailhead for their espresso, and the groups answer was worth sharing:

“Being fortunate enough to live so close to the Rocky Mountains, many a journey often begins there. Whether you’re starting your trail out on foot, horseback, mountain bike, snowshoe, cross country skis or anything else I can’t think of, you always meet up at the trailhead, often with friends (well at least in the good ol’ days). It really reminded us of Loft Coffee Co. and the journey we started out on, not so long ago.”
